I’m a student of Non-Medical and I want to get good score and crack  my entrance exam – JEE-Mains. I want to know the tips and strategies to score in the exam.

10 Tips To Crack JEE-Mains

As the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) is around the corner, aspirants are gearing up their preparations.  They should focus on building a strong and solid foundation of scientific and technical knowledge. For JEE-Advanced, first a student must qualify the JEE (Main) exam with a good score. From 2017 onwards, the 12th board exams wouldn’t be taken into the consideration. Lakhs of students apply and appear for JEE-Mains exam but only 10% are able to qualify but you just need a well planned strategy to qualify this exam. Always remember –   Believe You Can Do It!

   1.Start Early

A student keen to crack the JEE exam, should start early preparation, preferably from Class XI onwards. Right from the beginning, a student should put in adequate efforts to prepare for the exam. Apart from an early start, the basics and fundamentals should be strong enough to crack an easy or a difficult question.  One should start preparing for the exam just after the 10th Exams over , you don’t have much time, so try to utilise that time.

   2.A well-prepared subject-wise chart

A student can do well in the JEE (Main) exam, if he/she has a thorough grasp of the concepts. However, for JEE (Advanced), comprehension, reasoning and analytical ability, skills are required to solve problems. Students should give ample importance to three subjects- Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics-and get all the fundamentals right in Class XI and XII itself. All the three subjects are equally important so one should devote equal time to these three. Study table for each subject and it’s topics should be listed and prepared.

   3.Know the exam

Before starting your preparations, it is essential to understand the format of the exam, type of questions, level of difficulty, marking patterns, eligibility, syllabus etc. This will help you to have a focused approach towards the exam. JEE-Mains examination is a 90 Multiple Choice Questions. The paper is divided into 3 sections ( Physics / Chemistry / Mathematics ) with 30 questions each. The duration of the examination is 3 hours which means you will have approximately around 90 seconds to attempt each question.

    4.Time Management

The time duration of the exam is three hours and with multiple choice questions and negative marking, managing time and speed is very important, which will come over time and with practice. Time management is one of the most important factors responsible for good marks.

DON’T make the same mistake others are doing. This can be your edge for gaining above everyone else. Manage your time to get the best results possible. Time can make or break your result. There is no better time to start than from NOW. If you have only 2-3 months left to prepare for your exams, then don’t join or continue any coaching or tuition lessons. This time is only for self-study and revising all the notes you have prepared so far.

   5.Solve Sample Papers and Previous Year Question Papers

When one is done with preparation and has done all the chapters, the most important thing is to solve the previous year question papers and sample papers that come pre JEE-Mains examination around 2-3 months before exam dated. Another way is while you have done 1 chapter go through all the questions asked related to it in the last few years. In market you will easily find books with chapterwise questions asked in JEE-Mains. Atleast solve 10 previous year question papers as it helps you get an idea about the level of questions and some what pattern of the question paper. Solving Sample papers and previous year question papers helps you with a quite great question bank and practice and analyze you how well you are prepared.

   6.Track progress

You need to periodically solve mock test papers and monitor your progress. This will help to identify your weak areas and concentrate on improving your speed and accuracy. If you are following the tip#5  then tip#6 goes hand in hand as it is really necessary to figure out your accuracy,  speed and the areas where you need to work much harder.

  7.Relax and meditate:

Usually as the time passes by and the exam approaches the student undergoes lots of emotions in forms of anxieties or depressions feeling low at times, in need of motivation, tired, in need of break. Learning meditation, yoga, or any other form of relaxation techniques as it suits you. Such techniques have a stress relieving effect and help you have a higher degree of concentration. One might get exhausted preparing for the exam but yoga and meditation will definitely help you in getting positive energy and refreshing you, your mind and your soul.

   8.Revise thoroughly and take breaks

Do not get complacent with your mock test results. Revise thoroughly and take short breaks at regular intervals, re-energize yourself and start again. Scoring good in mock tests or sample question papers or previous year question papers does not mean you know everything. Never get over confident about anything. Stay positive and just be confident.

    9.In depth Analysis of selected topics

Analysis of everything you do is must. It will give you an idea about your weaknesses and strengths. If you have to crack JEE-Mains, It is the most important thing to do, so that the selected topics are bulletproof! You need to take analyse your performance and topics on which you need to work harder. Analyzing a topic would help you to make a good total.

    10. During The Exam Time

Just before exam begins , be calm and stay positive don’t let your anxieties or nervousness take over you. Revising concepts would be great only if it does not burdens you or puts any sort of pressure. When the exam begins take care of time. Set your watch as per the examination hall time. Always read the instructions given at the front page of the question paper. Since, it’s MCQ’s carefully fill the option in your OMR sheet and circle it darkly and properly because the computer scans the answer sheet and accordingly your answers world be evaluated. In case you don’t properly shade your answer you might not get reward for an answer that was supposed to be correct. Since it’s 90 questions you won’t have enough time to cross check and solve. It is better either to tick the questions you have attempted or encircling the un-attempted questions.

You may get stuck on some questions, but don’t waste too much of your time on a single question. If you don’t know a particular question’s answer, skip that question and attempt that question later.

After you have completed your exam, if time left utilize it in solving un-attempted questions.

Cracking JEE-Mains exam is not an easy task. You will have to work hard and try to follow and implement all the above tips for getting better results.

    1. H.C.Verma for physics is a great option . Then there is V.K. Jaiswal for Inorganic Chemistry, Narendra Awasthi fo Physical Chemistry and M.S. Chouhan. Another good option is P.B. Bahadur which covers all the three fields of chemistry. For Mathematics you can refer to Arihant publications or Tata McGraww Hills.
